Characteristics of MDI raw materials

MDI based products have lower isocyanate odour than similar TDI types and have superior hydrolysis resistance and often have higher resilience.

MDI products will have better wear life and softer hand feeling.

Operation Note

High NCO content leads to much higher heat release in the reaction process of MDI system than TDI system, so the shrinkage rate of MDI products is greater than that of TDI series products. (TDI: 1.5-2%; MDI: 1.8-2.4%).

Shrinkage law: The higher the hardness, the greater the shrinkage, and the larger the size, the greater the shrinkage.

The prepolymer of component A has high NCO content, high self-polymerization tendency and easy reactivity with water, and the prepolymer of component C BDO has high water absorption. Therefore, in order to ensure product quality and process stability in MDI production process, the raw material storage tank of pouring machine must be protected by nitrogen.

MDI chain extender is BDO with small equivalent, so its metering accuracy is higher than TDI. Generally, the metering accuracy is 3 ‰, which can ensure the stability of product quality.
